Oooh! Jenny's Life!

I'm not as cool as you may think. I just have good lighting.

Need a minion for your recording project? How about a whipping girl for live sound?

Have bass/guitar/killer voice/prodigal music theory knowledge/HELLA boobs, will travel. Make me your apprentice, and I'll love you forever!*

Life is good. Work might suck and you may be surrounded by idiots, but you create your own destiny, ultimately. Things change. People change. And if you leave yourself open to those changes, you end up a lot less miserable.

I was born and raised in New York, and I'm currently biding my time in Kansas City. I've seen and been through a lot in my lifetime, and I can only hope that I see and learn more every minute. My passion in life is my music, and while I've been sidetracked from that passion more than a few times, this is it...it's all or nothing. It's musical genius or bust from here on out.

I attended Ithaca College School of Music as a vocal performance/music education major for two years, during which I came to realize that performing the work of other people (who, in many cases, have been dead for centuries) would do very little to change the world. The thought that I would be doing this upon graduation made me feel like I was dying a slow musical death, and I refused to continue that particular journey.

I left college and a full scholarship because I wasn't headed in the musical direction that was best for me. A lot of people seem to think that this makes me less intelligent than those with a degree, but I feel that they would be very wrong. I saw that a change was needed, and I forced myself to adapt, despite the immediate drawbacks of the decision. I think that in the end, it will pay off.

Right now my day jobs involve selling computers and making people happier with their credit cards. Not exactly as rewarding careers as being a rockstar or CEO, but all in good time. It also pays for gear.

SOME FUN FACTS ABOUT ME:

    • First off: I run my whole operation out of a first(rip) second generation Apple TiBook. I'm one of those non-filmed  switch types. Seeing as I used to run a PC, I'm not really that much of a macmac, but...if you are one of those people who makes fun of macs constantly, don't be too surprised when I giggle in a self-satisfied manner when your steaming hunk of metal crashes for the 517th time today. M'kay Thanks. : )

    • Believe it or not, I am indeed an ordained minister. Call me the Rev. J..

    • The very first instrument that I studied was the clarinet. It was vintage as all hell, and the mouthpiece had some serious dental grooves before my lips even touched it. Now, I keep myself busy by playing a heart-shaped guitar. It's a whole different type of hardcore I'm into now.

    • I have perfect pitch. It is a both a blessing and a curse, and I happily embrace both aspects of it. Plus it makes for one hell of a parlor trick/drinking game.

    • If you hand me a musical instrument, chances are that I already play it. If I don't, give me about two weeks, and it will be a part of my repertoire.

    • My SAT score from way back when was 1470. My ACT was 35. I guess that's supposed to make me a smart cookie. I say it makes me a nerd for taking both tests.

    • I like to learn new languages for fun.

    • I have a cat who is so spoiled, she has her own luggage and perfume. If I had a dog/chinchilla/etc., he/she would receive the same royal treatment.

    • I am quite happy with the prospect of never having offspring. I know this baffles a lot of people, but the fact is, I really am not too keen on small humans, and probably never will be. If you think that the right man or woman would cause me to change this view, you are sadly mistaken.

    • Injustice and insolence really piss me off.

    • I tend to mock cowards, radicals, arrogants, irates, and people who radiate abject stupidity. If you annoy me, I will annoy you back.

Like what I have to say? Go ahead and add me to your friends list. Don't ask. Don't wonder. Just do it. I'll probably add you back.

NOTE TO LJ ADMINISTRATORS: In the event of an emergency, personal information is available as a private entry. This entry is the first chronological one of my journal, and is located here.

*If you like me and want to make me your studio bitch, feel free to contact me using the information above. I need more experience, and I would kill for the right apprenticeship. I'm willing to sleep in the corner of your soundstage, shower with a garden hose, and subsist on ramen and Wonder Bread if it means I would get decent recording and sound engineering expertise from knowledgeable people. If you're currently planning to tour a lot, then you definitely have extra consideration. Seriously. I'm your chick. Contact me.
